Breathing like a tree (love note, I)

Last February (2018), I spent the month writing Love Notes for my Mindful Monday series— to you, to me, to the earth— and in the process I discovered how often I breathe-sound-speak-dance-live-RECEIVE, notes of love every single day!

Continuing the theme for February 2019 (although most of my posts all year long are love notes!), I will open this month with a lovely one from Mary Oliver….

When you first saw "her" -
- beauty-
-the dream-
-the human vortex of your life-
or "him"
did you stop
and stand in the crisp air,
breathing like a tree?
Did your life change?

I have been living-into-and-through this poem in so many ways this past year, while only having come across it a few weeks ago. As David Whyte says in his essay, Naming, “We can never know in the beginning, in giving ourselves to a person, to a work, to a marriage or to a cause, exactly what kind of love we are involved with.”

As I meet with the many forms of love that arise within my life, I slow down and feel the ways in which I am moved, inspired, connected, challenged….taking it all in without title, definition or expectation…

merely BE-ing In(side of) LOVE.
